Urdhva Mukha Svanasana

Upward Facing Dog is often one of the first yoga poses that children learn. There are countless ways to theme this pose, and it is a fun opportunity to have children look around the yoga circle and smile at each other!

Some of our favorite kids yoga activities that incorporate Upward Facing Dog are Butterfly Lifecycle and Halloween Salutation! Both are fun and easy ways to bring yoga into elementary schools, preschool, or yoga class.

Step 1
Begin by laying on your stomach.

Step 2
Bring your hands up by your shoulders, and place your palms on the floor.

Step 3
Press into your palms and straighten your arms. Lift your head and torso up as high as you can, and keep your elbows close to your body.

Step 4
Hold this pose for a couple of breaths, then slowly lower to the floor.
